Where do you shop and why?

I shop for meat at a local butchers and Aldi for my fish, fruit, vegetables and everything else. The quality of meat is better at the butchers than any supermarket. I’d love to shop more at markets for my vegetables but due to location and my schedule, it isn’t an option at the moment.

How would you rate your diet out of ten?

I would say I eat fairly healthy and stick predominately to a wholefoods diet. My only downfall is when I eat out. I’d give myself an 8 out of 10.

Do you follow any specific diets such as Dukan, 5:2, Atkins?

No and most of them I think are a load of rubbish. They put weight loss before health, which is completely backwards! I just follow a wholefoods style of eating. For clients with problematic skin I will usually recommend something like the Anti-Inflammatory Diet or the Alkalising Diet, as these get good results to balance internal acidity.

What is your typical daily breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

I am a creature of habit so do tend to eat similar things on most days.

Breakfast – Smoked salmon and scrambled egg in coconut oil, served with tomatoes or avocado (or both).

Lunch – Either a homemade soup, made with bone broth and vegetables or a salad of some sort.

Dinner – Either chicken or fish, served with potatoes and vegetables.

Snacks – Nuts, fruit, dark chocolate

How do you quench your thirst?

First thing in the morning I have a small glass of Himalayan Salt Sole than helps to replenish minerals and aids digestion. Followed by a glass of lemon water for alkalising benefits and Vitamin C boost. Throughout the day I’ll sip on green tea or plain water and I enjoy one black coffee in the afternoon when Cortisol levels are lowest.

I’m a big believer in drinking when you’re thirsty. The 8 glasses of water a day nonsense has sparked a nation of over-drinkers. I once had a client tell me they drank 3 litres of water a day! This excess fluid puts additional strain on the kidneys and also dilutes the bodies’ mineral stores.

What is your favourite type of food?

Anything with flavour and variety! I love Spanish Tapa or Greek Mezze, because of the small dish style of eating. I’m much happier picking at lots of small dishes than sitting in front of one large plate of food.

When you are being naughty what do you eat?

I am a huge chocoholic! I try to curb my craving by indulging in a small amount of good quality dark chocolate on a regular basis, a little and often approach and the stronger the chocolate, the more the craving is satisfied. However If I’m eating out and warm chocolate brownie is on the dessert menu, then I’m too weak to resist!

What nutrition tip(s) would you give our readers?

Look after your gut and your gut will look after you! I don’t think people realise exactly how important the health of the gut is for their overall health, including immune system and mental health. So avoid sugar, which contributes to an overgrowth of candida and eat a diet that nourishes the gut, including plenty of vegetables for fibre and fermented foods for probiotic benefits. Bone broth is an excellent source of minerals and collagen that help to repair leaky gut, so instead of throwing your chicken carcass in the bin, throw it in a crock-pot with some water and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and slow cook for 12 hours or until the bones have crumbled, indicating the minerals have been depleted and gone into the broth. A good broth will be gelatinous when cool, a sign of good collagen from the connective tissue.
