Originally from Australia, Robyn Mason FdSc DipION is a Clinical Nutritionist and Medical Aesthetic Practitioner, with a specialised interest in the Functional Medicine approach to health. Robyn works with patients to nutritionally support their bodies, so that they can heal themselves from the inside out. Robyn has worked with Wimpole Aesthetics, in London, for the last 6 years.
What brought you to working at Wimpole Aesthetics?
I started off working in aesthetics in Australia in 1996. I moved to Japan and it was there that I first started closely working with the more advanced, cosmecutical side of the industry. I started to develop my interests in skin physiology and cosmetic chemistry. I was fascinated to learn how to correct internal, systemic problems which were typically showcased externally in common cosmetic issues such as Hypersensitivity, Rosacea and Acne. It was at the same time started looking into nutrition and discovered Cosmedix, and it was no co-incidence, there is a huge overlap between them. From this point, I completed a degree in nutritional therapy and further trained in functional medicine. I first met Constance & Aysha Campion-Awwad and managed a Medi Spa in South Kensington, in London. I then worked for the Beautiful Body Company, founded by Esther Fieldgrass, who already stocked Cosmedix. I have now been working for Wimpole Aesthetics for 6 years.
As the Practice Manager, day to day I do a little bit of everything. I practice Functional Medicine, Medical Aesthetics and nutritional therapy. I find it hard to separate Nutritional Therapy and Medical Aesthetics sometimes; whether internal or externally applied, the body’s cells have needs which must be addressed, and you get such great results when you’re targeting them both at the same time.
What’s your favourite thing about Cosmedix?
Primarily, I love that Cosmedix products feature the most sophisticated and technologically advanced formulations and ingredients available worldwide. In particular, I love the incredible mix of powerful, botanically based antioxidants. The products are not tested on animals, are plant based and contain no dyes, fragrances or skin nasties.
I really pay attention to cellular health in my work. And, Chirally Corrected formulas are specially devised to positively interact with the skin on a cellular level and achieve the best results possible, as quickly as possible.
Being a nutritionist the ingredients utalised are very similar to what I would also recommend that patients take orally. Like me, Cosmedix and Medico Beauty believe that skin should be treated as an organ, demonstrative of the overall health of the body. They are educated and very aware of the skin’s physiology and all it’s complex processes. Cosmedix aims to reinstate the healthy, natural processes of the skin and heal any dysfunctional behaviour that is so indicative of nearly all common cosmetic skin issues.
Secondly, I love that, fundamentally, the products do what they say that they are going to do. They really can change someone’s skin for the better; in direct opposition to so many other lines on the market, which either can’t get the results, can’t get them quickly, or can only achieve them temporarily. With Cosmedix and Results Rx, I let the clinical results I can achieve speak for themselves.
Finally, at this point in my career I have seen thousands of patients in a number of different centres, around the world. I have found, over and over again, that Cosmedix can be taken to any clinic and used with any patient: it helps everyone, whatever their issue. As I’ve moved from clinic to clinic over the years, the conversion rate of those using the products is high. Once they discover these products and the incredible results that they can achieve, people don’t switch. For first time during their adult lives, many achieve the healthy, happy skin that they have always wanted.
Do you use Cosmedix yourself what is your favourite homecare product?
I ABSOLUTELY use Cosmedix, without question! My favourite homecare product – and isn’t glamourous – is Purity Clean. Before I started using Cosmedix, I had extremely fragile skin, which was prone to Eczema and Acne. I could never go near anything which was stimulating or exfoliating. Once I was able to reinstate a healthy skin function, it was the first product I could use to gently stimulate and renew my skin and a sign that it could tolerate meant it was healthy once more, acting as nature intended. The L-Lactic Acid contained (derived from yogurt) will help to gently push off the old cells and bring in the new. Purity Clean is a must in the mornings and evenings and can even be used as an amazing at home mask. I also adore Serum 24. Containing 24% LG-Retinex – a proprietary GAG-enhanced encapsulation of retinol and retinaldehyde – Serum 24 is the closest thing to surgical age defiance (but without the surgery!).
What’s your favourite professional treatment?
I find it extremely hard to choose between Blueberry Smoothie and Timeless Peel. Before my sister’s wedding in February, I did three Benefit Peels and a Timeless. My skin looked AMAZING. I had people stopping me in street. People I had known for years were asking my what the hell I had done. I even had comments on Skype. I’ve still seeing the benefits from my Timeless Peel now, it is absolutely wonderful.
Do you have a great success story?
I have been working with products for 7 years and I just have So. Many. Success. Stories. To. Tell.
Recently, I’ve been treating a Japanese lady with inflamed, acne skin. Asian skin is famously sensitive and can be hard to treat for some, without the right tools. Within 4 days of using Cosmedix and Results Rx, her skin changed. It was calmer, had 25% LESS pustules.
What do you do to stay healthy & happy?
Aside from using Cosmedix skincare, I haven’t eaten gluten in years, which has made a massive difference to how I look and feel. Importantly, I also make sure that I get 8 hours sleep, whatever happens. There is a book called ‘The Promise of Sleep’, which I highly recommend. Sleep science is really interesting and a proper night’s sleep makes a huge difference to mood, energy levels and skin quality. There is no co-incidence that sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture.
